Internet Explorer - Use IE6 or IE7
At this time Internet Explorer 8 is in Beta and will not work with Tegrity consitently. Tegrity will update their software only once this version is in Release.
Google Chrome - Don't Use
Google Chrome, also in Beta, will not work with Tegrity. Once again Tegrity will update their software once it is in Release.
Firefox - Use older Only
Tegrity Works inconsistently with V2 and not with V3
Bottom line is use IE7 until browser versions settle to release.

Tegrity Podcast
The Tegrity Podcast feature will not be available for the next few days. The M4v files are currently making the size of the lecture downloads rather large. Tegrity is aware of the problem and is working on the issue. As soon as the issue is corrected, we will post on the blog to let you know the Podcast feature is available again.

Network Problems
If you are having trouble viewing lectures it may be due to campus network problems. This was sent out today:
"We are seeing intermittent network outages affecting part of the campus
network at this time. Our NOC staff are working on the issue and we are
working with CISCO support to diagnose the source of the problem. We
don't have an estimate for when the problem will be resolved, which
began earlier this morning."

Macintosh Compatibility
Some students with older Macintosh's have been experiencing issues with streaming. I will post the solution and an explanation below.
The problem lies in the differences in hardware architecture between older Macs (Power PC based) and newer Macs (x86-Intel based). Currently a if a Mac user new to Tegrity attempts to stream a lecture, they will get a prompt to install a plug-in. The plug-in is designed to run on x86-Intel based macs only. If the user has a Power PC based Mac, the plug-in installation will run but streaming from Tegrity will still fail. Users with x86-Intel Macs will not experience problems. The solution for Power PC users is to download the correct plug-in. I have provided a link below.
http://mirror.facebook.com/videolan/vlc/last/macosx/vlc-plugin-0.8.6b-powerpc.dmg
Download this plug-in and run the installation. Restart Safari when the installation has completed. Power PC Mac users will then be able to stream using Tegrity.
We are working on integrating the Power PC plug-in into the plug-in download screen on Tegrity. Thank you for your patience.

Problems viewing from home.
Please keep in mind that these problems are only happening with some routers and some ISP's. COVE recommends LinkSys WRT54G or better router.

Problems viewing from home...
We have analyzed this and this is what we found.
Direct connection of the computer to the ISP providers modem solves the problem. When using a router the system never starts playing. The hang observed is seen as a continuous flashing of Buffering/Playing but the video never starts. This is caused by your ISP. Some ISP providers intentionally limit connections when you are using a router. This is because they typically like to charge your per connection. There is a workaround...if you connect to UCF utilizing the Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection you form a logical connection to UCF that the ISP is less likely to be able to limit. You can find information about creating this connection at: UCF VPN Help. This is easy to set up and should solve the problem.

Server Status
Many changes have been made to the Tegrity server. The first change is more efficient downloads. On average there is only a 5 second delay for classes to begin downloading. The second change is disabling of DRM activex controls. This allows for more reliable viewing of downloaded files. The 3rd change relates to load time of webpages on the server. It should be noted that in order to insure Macintosh compatability, we had to reprocess every class currently on the server. This was started at 6:00am. We expect this to be completed by 10:00am. This means that some lectures may not be available until later in the morning or early afternoon. I would like to thank everyone for their continued patience. I would like to note that these problems were not a result of the Tegrity system by itself. There were many contributing factors relating to our implementation specifically. Tegrity has been generous in their offering of support for UCF and have even gone as far to rewrite server code specifically for our school.

Classes
The Tegrity server is working well. There is however one concern. During the rebuild of the Tegrity server we noticed that some classes were missing. We went through all the classes and fixed the missing classes. Even though all classes are present to the best of our knowledge we would appreciate it if you could report any missing classes to us.

Tegrity Server
As of 5:00am August 25th the server has been up. Many issues were addressed including server stability problems and performance enhancements. We updated the Tegrity server player. This enabled Macintosh streaming as well as fixing that double audio problem some users were experiencing. We are still working on improving download performance. Many students have complained that it takes a long time for the server to offer them a file to download. We have identified the issue with this and plan to finish fixing it some time this weekend.
Thanks,
George Sapp

Server Status
As of 12:00pm today service was restored. We expect any further issues will be minor in nature. Limited Macintosh streaming capabilities have been enabled. Users with intel macs will be able to stream immediately. Users with Power PC macs will have to wait a bit longer for streaming. We are currently making the modifications necessary to enable streaming for Power PC Macs. Although MAC streaming is available we still recommend that mac users download lectures. Please be patient while downloading. In some cases it can take several minutes for downloads to begin. We are also working on a fix for this. Thank your all for your patience and cooperation.

Tegrity Server
The Tegrity server has been experiencing intermittent outages over the last couple days. We are aware of this problem and are working at full capacity to correct it. The issue is expected to be resolved before 8am August 24th. Despite it's appearance the system is very new in may ways. May adjustments are being made to ensure reliable streaming and maximum availability. We appreciate you patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
